This wood cut piece of art was completed in Japan around 1600, and shows a Japanese Bobtail cat (note his black pom-pom bobtail and white body) looking out of a window in Japan viewing a fair in the city below.
As an artist myself I found this picture so intriguing that I acquired two Japanese Bobtail kittens. They eventually had kittens and I began exhibiting these beautiful and loving creatures at CFA Cat Shows, mostly in the North East, particularly in New England.
My love for this breed grew and grew until I had to create a home based cattery to properly house my many cats. Luckily I am retired, with a helpful husband, so I was able to make my cats a full time activity. Today I am snow bound in our country home with 7 of my cats cuddling or playing around me as I type on my laptop. It is a lovely feeling being surrounded by these charming, loving creatures.
Japanese Bobtails are basically white cats, with color markings usually on their tails and head, but markings can be elsewhere as well. Long Hair as well as Short Hair cats are available. Most of my cats have blue or odd eyes, but the CFA breed standard allows various colored eyes. To know more about the detailed breed standards I would refer you to the Cat Fanciers Association,
www.cfainc.org.
Following, I am going to show you pictures of some Japanese Bobtails, some of which are of cats owned by my friend Yukiko Terashima, a top breeder of these cats in Japan, and some of my cats.
